It’s almost not fair.
Smaller ballpark, wind blowing out, terrific hitters, it all combined to help Manchester stroke five home runs en route to a 12-5 victory over Cosby in a Dominion District battle Tuesday.
Joey Cujas hit a solo shot in the third, pitcher Ryan Morrison broke a 3-3 tie with a bases-empty one in the fifth, and Augie Ayers‘ three-run blast opened things up a few outs later.
“I was a little nervous coming into the game because last time against us they beat us,” Ayers said. “It kind of upset us a little bit. It pumped us up for this game.”
The Lancers, ranked first in the latest DigitalSports Top 10, weren’t done, as Chris Ayers knocked out a two-run shot in the sixth, followed by another two-run round tripper from outfielder Noah Vann.
That made it 12-3.
Kyle McKay blasted a pair of two-run homers for Cosby, driving in Mitchell Shifflett (2 for 4, double) each time, but the Lancers’ power was too much on this evening for coach Tim Lowery‘s bunch.
“Any pitcher that comes out here has almost got to be on their A-game,” Saunders said. “With the park, especially when the winds blowing like this…you get a couple of balls in the air they can get out of here.”
